Why I Serve
I believe communities with strong learning cultures are more adaptable, engaged, and connected. Public libraries are powerful catalysts for creating that culture, providing access to ideas, resources, and experiences that spark curiosity and open doors to new possibilities. As someone whose life and career have been shaped by learning, I believe few things are more meaningful than helping another person discover an idea, an opportunity, or a passion that might change the course of their life.

A Sarasota native, Tanna Horner has built her career around education, creativity, and community engagement. After earning her B.A. in Elementary Education, she spent nine years as a Sarasota public school teacher, where she helped develop and lead a gifted magnet program. She later earned her M.A. in Educational Leadership and served as an independent school principal for nearly a decade before bringing her passion for arts, culture, and innovative programming to the leadership of a botanical and sculpture garden. Tanna is a voracious reader, enjoys writing, and relishes all that beautiful Sarasota has to offer.
