Summer News for Library Lovers

Meet Our New Board Members Please join us in welcoming two new leaders to our Board of Directors. In addition to sharing a love of libraries, Alison Gardner and Leslie Pemberton bring rich professional experience and community leadership to our organization. You can read more about them, and our other amazing board members on our Board page.  A Strong Investment in Library Programs Thanks to donor support, the Library Foundation will be able to reinvest in several signature library initiatives as well as support new, innovative programs. We’re delighted to continue our support of the library’s Summer Learning program, which serves more than 20,000 residents, and to expand the library’s audiobook collection. We’ll also invest in new streaming services, bilingual storytimes, and improved technology for residents with low vision or literacy barriers. Under the Sea We recently visited the Discovery Dome Planetarium and saw “Expedition Reef”….and it was inside the William H. Jervey Jr. Venice Library. Together with a few dozen kids and adults, we climbed into a huge blow-up dome and learned about corals on the big screen. Keep checking the library’s events calendar for other unexpected, unique, free, mind-expanding, right-in-your-neighborhood events. Programs like this are made possible by generous donors who support the Library Foundation, including the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation. Spread the Word The Florida property tax amendment on the November ballot poses significant risks to public library funding and other critical Sarasota County services. If passed, this amendment will limit local decision-making and impact our quality of life in Sarasota County. Help us spread the word so our community knows why libraries matter. If Sarasota County libraries are important to you or have made a difference in your life, let us know. The first 20 library lovers to submit their story with a photo or video will receive an “I Love Sarasota County Libraries” magnet.
