How we're making a difference at our libraries!

Community Advocacy Team in Action On March 22, representatives from our Community Advocacy Team met with Florida legislators at the state capitol to let them know how important Sarasota libraries are to our community.  Many thanks to our volunteers Kelley Lavin, Deborah Kostroun, and Stacey Ogea – who joined 120 library advocates from across the state – to share a passionate and thoughtful case for increasing state funding for our public libraries!  Celebrating Library Appreciation Week April 23 - 29 The Library Foundation was privileged to recognize our amazing library staff during Library Appreciation Week! This annual celebration highlights the valuable role libraries and their staff play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. We ♥ our library staff! Thank you, Community Foundation of Sarasota County! We’re grateful to the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for awarding the Library Foundation a $10,000 Capacity Building Grant in support of our advocacy efforts! This generous grant will provide library lovers with digital tools to help champion our public libraries and share their library stories. Sarasota residents love our libraries! Remembering John Jakes and Ina Schnell We were saddened this spring to lose two founding members of the Library Foundation:  John Jakes and Ina Schnell.  Both of these wonderful people were passionate supporters of public libraries and deeply believed in the transformative power of books and reading.  By graciously lending their experience, expertise, and voices to the newly formed Library Foundation in 2011, they helped ensure our success.  We will always be deeply grateful for their generous encouragement and support.  Great communities deserve great libraries.
